RE: Things that are great about The Little White Horse

I'm really sad - I want to go to this Christian camp that I go to every year because it's fun and my friends are going, but my mum won't let me because I'm an atheist... :'(

Hi! Sorry, I have been busy at work lately and haven't had a chance to get on in a while.

Congratulations on your blackbelt! That sounds like fun.

Why has your mom decided not to let you go this year after letting you go all the other years? That's messed up. You should still get to go this year as well, because there's no reason to tell you no this time. Just because she hates God doesn't mean that you shouldn't go to a Christian camp.
Tell her that it's your decision what you believe and that you don't want to abandon your faith in God just because she did. Ask her to get back into her Bible and talk to God and ask Him to heal her pain and help her not to feel like it's His fault that something happened to her years ago.
Because Jesus said in John 10:10. "The thief ( the devil) cometh not but to steal, kill, and destroy. But I (Jesus) have come so that you may have eternal life, and have it to the fullest."
God restores, gives life, and saves. Satan kills, steals, and destroys. It wasn't God that took her joy from her. It was satan.
Even Stephen didn't desert his faith when they stoned Him for loving God. He held onto it until they killed his body. And you know what? He went to Heaven. He didn't quit. I'd love for your mom to have another chance to get to Heaven, so she should repent and ask God to fulfil her life and give her a faith like Stephen's.
I'll be praying for you all. In Christ, DoeE

My mum likes to think that a God might be there and likes to think she believes in something like that, but doesn't have really much of a position on the subject. She certainly thinks there is a higher possibility of a God than I do, and infact the last really bad thing that happened to her (when her dad died), it actually enhanced her faith as she wanted to believe there was a heaven. She's probably the most theistic in our family!

The reason she won't let me go isn't because of fear of indoctrination or hatred of God, it's because she doesn't understand that you don't have to be a Christian to attend - that I'm not going to "burst into flames" so to speak if I had gone there. It's not like they're going to keep anyone out for not being a theist XD ! I think she might also be afraid that I'll go around arguing with people the whole time - I think she thinks that all atheists are like Christopher Hitchens! I don't want to go around converting people away from faith - I just want to go along, enjoy myself, and study the Bible even if I don't believe everything it says.

I've given up asking though, since I haven't been to church since last September anyway, so I would have no one to go with. I just thought it would be interesting to have a different perspective of the events this time, and I like studying the Bible even in a secular way. Hopefully we can make it to a freethought convention instead, maybe I'll fit in better...

Another reason I wanted to go was that I still have a HUGE interest in philosophy and the Judeo-Christian mythology, and enjoy studying the Bible. I just have more of an open mind now. But my mum won't even let me go to the Vatican when we go to Italy for the same reasons. She has to learn that just because people think about things differently doesn't mean they can't get along. I'm friends with a Christian and we share very similar interests in this area - the only difference is that she believes in God and I don't. It doesn't mean we can't get along.

Thank you for thinking of me, and hoping that neither of us spend eternity being tortured ;) .

How has your summer been? Mine was mainly hot and dry, but now it's cooler and we're getting rain.
