Your Joking!

Looking on IMDB to see if they had finally cast this thing I found in the role of Maria, Dakota Blue Richards, a girl, who will come to fame in Phillip Pullman's movie version of Northern Lights playing Lyra.
She's Maria?
Was this entire competition a publicity scam?
Where is the press reports?
She doesn't even look like Maria and she will probably be type-casted as a person who will only do fantasy films!
How is she even going to film this movie during filming for The Subtle Knife!
What the boogus is happening?

Like Kate said, how are you going to film while she's filming for another movie...
I know that like she looks a little like Maria. [Red Hair, Pale ish Skin.] But Shes honestly, Nothing against her or anything. Its just not what I imagined Maria would look like...

This probably sounds strange. But to me she looks just a little TOO happy for Maria. I mean, Maria wasn't depressed or anything. But I always imagined her as well... not like always smiling. A bit solemn you could say. Taking things seriously. Laughing when she was riding Periwinkle and excited about riding for the first time, but other then that... She had quite a unusual personality.

Well Kate, the casting competition was run with another producer. Personaly, what I think is that, when it changed hands, the whole casting competition people weren't valued as they seemed to be before.

Oh well, life goes on I guess. I'll be a bit disapointed that it was a competitioner, or a unknown person, giving 'em a chance and all. But I guess life goes on.

And Kate, we can always hope that this is just some rumor, and that there has been no confimination yet. Seeing as I can't seem to find any press reports about it. Although the "Entered Filming" section is rather dishearting.

Although, best of luck to whoever makes Maria.

Love,

xx Hobbit ~<3

Although it is rather disappointing to hear that the casting of Maria didn't turn out as planned. I'm all for unknowns, personally.

And it's really a terrible thing to get everyone's hopes up like that and then just say that they had a change of plans. I don't think it's right.

However, I will of course be seeing the film as soon as it opens in the US. aww

oh well.
shameee.

that's a little sad.
but i'll back her if she does northern lights well.

if she stuffs that up then....

hmmmm
the movie looks pretty awesome though

but it's still a bit disappointing that when people like us (with limited opportunities as far as casting for big films go) finally get a chance and instead they opt for someone who already has plenty of chances.

but i will just trust that they know what's best for the movie.

Well, it has been confirmed! It's on the main website and the email they was released!

Not really what I imagined, she has already been picked on at IMDB for being called Dakota [haters of Dakota Fanning] and since taken this role because her names are two fantasy like!

I hope this movie isn't dissapointing - you would have thought that someone who actually auditioned from the winners would have got the part because that was one of the main reasons. And she won't excatly be an unkown - she is doing an adaption of one of the world's fave books [Northern Lights].

I just don't know when excatly she will have time to film this during Northern Lights. The HP movies are filmed back-to-back nearly, and you would think they would want to do the same with these characters.

Did she actually audition? Or, did she just come in for a meeting, and BOOM, let's give this girl a part?

Yeh, but I plan on dropping them because I've been getting auditions mainly by myself because they're useless

No, because you will not be taken seriously.

As soon as I am leaving I am signing with a better, agent who is very reliable and trust-worthy when it comes to work!

I thought that it was a comp to be Maria?confused

So, what did they say to the hopefuls?
"Sorry, We got some-one better!" ?

I agree with Madolethiel! Unknowns are better, it gives every-one a chance to be

I don't think people should be jelous because they didn't get picked.  The casting directors would have chosen who they felt is the best actress for the role.  I feel Dakota Blue Richards will suit the role well - Maria is described as thin, pale, plain, and slightly red haired.  Dakota has the complexion for this and will suit red hair well.  I thought she did well in the golden compass.
We should look forward to this movie and pass judgment once we've seen it, rather than grumbling because we aren't in it ourselves.

Jo, you just don't get it do you? This has nothing to do about being jealous or about not being picked for the part at all!! This is about being lied to and scammed! There was a huge competition that lasted for MONTHS and a lot of girls (from multiple countries) were waiting to know if they got the part or not. When the decision was made on who got the part as Maria Merryweather, it was official and the others who had tried for the part wished her well and congratulated her with complete sincerity and were good sports because they all equally knew that they had a fifty-fifty chance on getting that part at all! Then she (the winner) didn't hear from the people that were making the movie for over two years afterwards, and was never contacted on when it would be in production. So she's waiting and waiting for nothing! And then they suddenly pick someone else out-of-the-blue who has no right in the first place to even play the part already given to another girl (talk about identity theft!) and they treat the winner as though the whole competition/tryouts never happened and totally dis her and ignore her! Don't try to make this look like we're bad snubby people or that the poor girl was either, because we all know what's really happened here and you can't change the facts or the history of the previous years. Go look at the very first few columns and the tryouts photo on this site and find out for yourself all that took place. And the girl that won in the first place fit the description well herself, which is the entire reason why she won the part! No doubt that Dakota could play the part, but it still isn't rightfully even hers! It still belongs to that poor girl that has been lied to and may still be crying her eyes out!

We weren't snubbing her, we just don't agree with the way she was cast
